Eider Duck is an anthropomorphic duck.

Description

Eider is an uncle of Donald Duck and the son of Grandma Duck. Immensely strong, Eider was a very helpful farmhand for his mother in his youth (at least as late as 1902). He later married Lulubelle Loon, with whom he had several children: Whitewater Duck, as strong as his father, who became a lumberjack in the North; Mary Duck, about whom not much is known, though she became the mother of Dugan Duck; and, finally, the loonatic Fethry Duck, who took much after his mother and would later become an eccentric nuisance for his cousin Donald. Later in life, Eider became a falcon trainer, and, in 1944, sent a falcon named Farragut to Donald as a present (though Donald, even with the expert help of Huey, Dewey and Louie, had great trouble handling the bird).

Behind the scenes

Eider was first mentioned in 1944 in Carl Barks's story Farragut the Falcon, where we also see a picture of him. He did not actually appear however until The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck and the matching Duck Family Tree, both crafted by Don Rosa in the 1990's.
